First ferry to the Balearics

#SÈTE. Last January, the shipping company Corsica Ferries announced the entry into service of two new lines from the port of Sète, the ;rsquo;one towards the Balearic Islands, the second towards the Isle of Beauty.

This Wednesday, April 10 in the morning, a first boat, the Mega Express, entered the port of Sète, coming from Alcúdia, on the island of Majorca . He left again a few hours later to make the reverse route. The next rotation between the two ports is scheduled for April 16 and 17. The connection to Corsica will be launched next July.

Case of Ettore: the clairvoyant remains in prison

#MONTPELLIER. The Court of Appeal rejected, this Wednesday, April 10, the request for release made by Sophia Martinez, 44, the medium indicted for fraud and concealment of corruption in the Gilles d’Ettore affair. This mother of six therefore remains in prison.

She is suspected of having manipulated the mayor of Agde Gilles d’Ettore and his entourage to obtain various advantages: work at her home, hiring of her husband and relatives or even the financing of her wedding in an estate near Béziers. And this, in particular, by claiming to be in contact with the beyond and making the link with the archangel Michael, historical protector of the city of Agde and whose voice she imitated.< /p>

For these facts, while Gilles d’Ettore is also imprisoned after his indictment for embezzlement by a person holding public authority, illegal taking of interests and corruption, she has been incarcerated since March 21.

Train: the Cévennes line close

#GARD. During these two weeks of vacation, SNCF Réseau is continuing the large-scale work launched almost eight years ago to renovate the Cévennes line, which links Nîmes, Alès and Clermont-Ferrand. A project which, for this year 2024, amounts to 12 M€ costs, shared between the State (61%), the Occitanie Region (31%) and SNCF Réseau (8%).

The work in progress concerns three zones: Boucoiran, Alès and the Molette tunnel north of Génolhac. Traffic is completely interrupted on the line during the holidays and for a month on the Génolhac-Langogne section for the Molette tunnel. Others are planned until 2026 on other sections. Substitution buses are put in place.

An exceptional Roman mosaic unearthed

#BÉZIERS. A substantial piece of a mosaic which was to adorn a Roman domus (residence) has been placed in the basement of the halls, as part of the vast renovation project of the building. "This is the most beautiful one we found in Béziers", indicates Marion Salvaire-Fugagnoli, deputy director of culture for the City of Béziers.

"We can say that it’s a ceremonial piece, a large piece", continues the manager. It dates from the beginning of the Roman Empire, in the 1st century AD. Once restored, in several months, it will be valued but probably not exactly at the level of the precise area of ​​its discovery.

#OCCITANIE. The Ecologists party (ex-EELV) launched a study in 26 cities in France to test the presence of pollutants (PFAS) in drinking water. In the region, they were positive in Fabrègues, Mauguio and Narbonne. Also tested, the municipalities of Decazeville and Marseillan had negative results on all of these chemical compounds used since the 1940s and present in many products.
