A health center project in Pont-Saint-Esprit with general practitioners “employed by the Region”

The vice-president of the Occitanie region in charge of health, Vincent Bounes, and the mayor of Pont-Saint-Esprit, Claire Lapeyronie, met on Wednesday April 10 to work on the future health center which will accommodate doctors .

"We have been working with the commune of Pont-Saint-Esprit for two years on the opening of a health"recalled Wednesday April 10 Vincent Bounes, vice-president in charge of health in the Occitanie region, who came to the Gard commune for a working meeting with the mayor of Pont-Saint-Esprit and regional councilor Claire Lapeyronie.

The current electoral campaign, – that of the early municipal election in which Claire Lapeyronie is a candidate –, "this is the right opportunity to talk about it !& ;quot; underlines the’elected official from Haute-Garonne. "We are going to hand over doctors to Pont-Saint-Esprit where the situation has worsened over the past two years, we can speak of a medical desert", the town only having one general practitioner left.

Doctors employed by the Region

To open a health center, the municipality relies on the Ma santé Ma Région system, to which "Pont-Saint-Esprit has joined" specifies Claire Lapeyronie. "This project will be done in two stages" explains the vice-president. "From September, we will install general practitioners, we have identified two likely to come, in the premises of the hospital center". Then, as part of the’ extension of the establishment, end of 2025-beginning of 2026, a health center will be built to accommodate several health professionals, "employed by the Region ".

"We have already opened three health centers in Gard: Saint-Gilles, Saint-Hilaire-de-Brethmas and Lussan" specifies Vincent Bounes. "There are 15 in Occitanie. We have hired 75 doctors, we are recruiting 3 to 5 per month.

A scanner in the works

For the Region, the question of health in Pont-Saint-Esprit is not limited to the health center. "We will also help the hospital to create an intern center within 4 to 5 years, in La Blache, and we will support it in its project of scanning and energy renovation in nursing homes" continues Vincent Bounes.
