A Narbonne man who was sailing alone killed on his sailboat in Papua New Guinea

A 71-year-old Frenchman was killed on July 26 on his sailboat moored in a port in Papua New Guinea, we learned Wednesday from the Narbonne prosecutor's office.

The boat of this man who lived in Narbonne was moored at Bona Bona, an island located in the southeast of Papua New Guinea, the prosecutor's office told AFP, confirming information from the French regional daily L'Indépendant.

Two people were arrested “immediately” after the facts, which they have acknowledged, and are currently “being charged under local procedures”, according to information provided by the authorities on site, the prosecution added.

The boat was then sunk by the accused, who left the body on board. Two other people were arrested "more recently", continued the prosecution, which was unable to specify the exact date of these arrests.

"At present, the steps to recover the body are continuing" because, initially, "theweather did not allow divers to access the boat", still according to the prosecution of Narbonne.

For the moment, no investigation has been opened on the French side, but “the'French embassy on site, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Narbonne prosecutor's office are in contact with local authorities and the family on a daily basis, both on the progress of the investigation and on the progress in recovering the body", the prosecutor's office also stated.
