A wall newspaper in the style of Chinese dazibaos launched by Robert Ménard

La Ville de Béziers a installé, vendredi 13 septembre, une dizaine de "journaux muraux" sur l’espace public. Le principe : communiquer d’une façon différente auprès des Biterrois et toucher le maximum d’entre eux.

"The Call". This is the name of the "wall newspaper" set up by the City of Béziers this fall. On about ten panels chosen for their location where many pedestrians pass through (rue de la Citadelle, plan des Albigeois, place de la Madeleine, bas des Allées…), there are about ten short texts promoting municipal action and highlighting local culture. Security, justice, gastronomy, sport… various themes are covered. Passersby will have to take the time to stop for a few minutes to read the giant sheet.

“Touching people other than those who are on Tik Tok or see me on TV”

Robert Ménard was inspired by the Chinese “dazibaos”. “At the time of the Cultural Revolution, Mao Zedong (mind you, he is not my idol) addressed the youth to tell them: “Revolt!”“Which they did by expressing themselves, in particular, via large posters with large characters. “I am not saying that we must make the cultural revolution! But it's a 2020 version of Dazibao,” continues the mayor of Béziers before detailing his communication strategy: ““Alongside social networks and the municipal newspaper, we also offer something else, something less frequent and unique. We try to reach people who read next to a bus stop and who are not the same people on Tik Tok or those who see me on TV.” The publication rate has not been determined. The dazibao of Béziers is in the test phase.

On the other hand, more traditional, the Journal du Biterrois has been beefed up by going from 36 to 44 pages. And from a print run of 72,000 to 85,000 copies. To better supply the approximately 170 drop-off points, indicate the town hall services. The distribution service provider has also changed and it is now La Poste which is responsible for slipping the communication bulletin of the City and the Agglo into the mailboxes.
