After Nutriscore, what is Origin Score, this new logo which could appear on the shelves ?

This Thursday, February 22, 2024, Olivia Grégoire, Minister for Consumer Affairs, said she was in favor of the creation of an Origin Score, a new indicator on food product packaging.

"Europe-wide"

“In the short term, I am in favor of creating an Origin Score. I will bring together the stakeholders concerned to come and discuss to set up a common, shared and voluntary initiative. In the long term, this is work that we will have to carry out in Europe" , indicated the minister on her official account

Olivia Grégoire's office confirmed to actu.fr that a first version could see the light of day in supermarkets French "by'summer" 2024.

What would the logo look like ?

Modeled on the Nutriscore, the Origin Score would allow the consumer to be informed in the blink of an eye of the origin of the ingredients. 

The En Vérité collective, which brings together around sixty brands, has already worked on a logo. We would see a factory indicating the place of manufacture of the product and a pie chart, which shows the origin of the three main ingredients which make up the product, described TF1.

This system, currently being developed, will be done on a voluntary basis, like Nutriscore. Everything remains to be defined and you will not yet see this logo in stores.

Brussels must take up the subject in 2025 for a possible obligation at European level.
