After parents' anger, the Agglo announces adjustments to the Saint-Gilles – Nîmes school line

Les élèves de Garons et Saint-Gilles ont vécu une rentrée scolaire stressante dans les transports en commun pour se rendre aux établissements scolaires du centre-ville.

Several parents of students from Saint-Gilles et Garons expressed their discontent on social networks during this back-to-school period regarding the school line that serves Nîmes and its schools.

Indeed, line 219 has changed terminus since it is no longer at the bus station but to the west of the city, where there is the largest contingent of high school students (Darboux, Raimu) and IUT students from Saint-Gilles et Garons. But if this development can attract nearly 300 students concerned, what about the hundred who attend the establishments in the city center ?

Bus capacity

Interviewed by Midi Libre, Claude de Girardi, delegate for urban and suburban passenger road transport at Agglo Nîmes Métropole, said that “there is no line being cut. We have no financial stake in this one. But starting next week, we will adjust this service with the delegate Keolis to meet the most significant needs. We have to resolve a connection problem for young people who have to go to the city center. They stop at the Parnasse station to take the T1 or T4 trambus but they only have two minutes to do so, which is too short.”

The parents of students specify that the journeys are much longer, which has been well noted by the Agglo which wants to be as responsive as possible. Claude de Girardi mentions the issue of Wednesday lunchtime and the problem of bus capacity to be resolved quickly. Decisions by the Agglo which are also taken in agreement with the elected officials of Saint-Gilles.
