Après des élections partielles, qui ont propulsé Denis Kucharczak au poste de maire, un conseil municipal d’installation a institué le premier magistrat et ses adjoints.

It’s official. Denis Kucharczak is the new mayor of the small town of Saint-Florent-sur-Auzonnet. As a reminder, this village of barely 1,200 inhabitants was, in November, the scene of a municipal crisis, since eight members of the council had resigned.

And for good reason, major disagreements between the outgoing mayor, Jean-Pierre Beauclair, and his replacement, now, who occupied the position of first deputy.

Mayor and deputies installed

Following this wave, a municipal by-election was organized, and placed Denis Kucharczak in the lead with 308 votes against 292 for Jean-Pierre Beauclair.

The rest of the events took their course this Saturday, February 24, at the town hall of Saint-Florent. Under the eyes of more than 70 attentive, silent citizens, the municipal council, in turn, voted on the new mayor and his deputies. Unsurprisingly, out of the 15 elected members of the council (including one by proxy), the ballot announced 12 votes in favor of Denis Kucharczak and three blank votes.

Elections under tension

Three new deputies were also transferred, appointed unanimously. The count announced Pierre Ley as first deputy, Véronique Pialat as second, and Sandrine Chauvin as third. It was amidst applause that the councilors put on their tricolor scarves.

But beneath the flood of congratulations and enthusiasm, the tension at the council meeting table was palpable. Between Jean-Pierre Beauclair and two of his deputies, also seated at the town hall, and the twelve other elected officials, not a word was exchanged, nor even a look.

Except for a brief handshake between the outgoing mayor and his replacement, during a furtive exchange of keys, and before a quick departure. "I ran a clean, unprovoked campaign. The Saint-Florentins have spoken, and elected us", reacted Denis Kucharczak, who assures that the first files that the town hall will deal with will be that of economy energy and the transition to photovoltaics, and the study file concerning the general crossing of the village.
