Agde: football, rugby, handball, volleyball, basketball... the mid-season results of the clubs involved in the national championships

There are five clubs from the city to play in the national championships this season. A first for Agde, which reflects an indisputable sporting dynamic. Five clubs which, against all expectations, are rather well ranked at the end of this first part of the season. Assessment and prospects for each of them, as the second part of the calendar begins.

Football: Racing is in ambush

A resident of National 3, the venerable Agathois Olympic Racing Club, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary in 2024, is doing well. Third in the standings, six points behind the Istrians leader, the Rouge et Noir have been running a season in line with their objectives since August. "We had not announced the rise, but a regular place in the top trio", rewinds Olivier Oltra, who presides over the destiny of the club with his father Jean-Michel.

The former Racing player recalls a 'satisfactory' first part of the season, even if we have regrets over the last two matches – at Cannet-Rocheville (2-2) and at home on the 17th. December against Beaucaire (2-2) – where we were each time behind at the very end of the match." That is, four points gone, which today would have allowed Racing, third, to be only two lengths behind instead of six from Istres, a leader who was nevertheless crushed at Sanguin (4-0) this autumn. After a day of hiking in Salagou during the holidays, Pascal Dagani's players will play a nice top-of-the-table derby against the Montpellier reserve (2nd) on Saturday January 13, at 5 p.m.

Rugby : Agde must get off to a good start

An avalanche of injuries thwarted the end of the year for the Agathois, who suffered two away defeats: at Gruissan (3-31) then at Châteaurenard (20-24), just before the holidays. Nothing very alarming at the moment for the Yellow and Blue who were leaders of the group for a long time before falling to 4th place, nine points behind Châteaurenard, but with a nice safety margin on 6th qualifying place. "We took the points when it was necessary", summarizes President Thierry Dominguez, who is awaiting the arrival of Grasse, dead last, this Sunday January 14 in Millet, "to get back on track.&quot ;

Handball: the Warriors confirmed

After a first season in Nationale 3 synonymous with maintaining, the Guerriers agathois largely confirm their place at this level, since they occupy second place in the ranking tied on points with Châteauneuf, a very short distance from the Corsican leader, Corte . Suffice to say that nothing is decided for the rise to N2, which is however not the main objective of the club. "Above all, we wanted to occupy a place in the first third of the ranking", recognizes Thomas Bizot, one of the historic players in Agde Handball. Agathois who will be a little technically unemployed during this month of January, since their calendar is modeled on the international calendar and the Euro which is looming. It is therefore on February 3 that they will host Nice at 7 p.m., for the 13th day.

Volleyball: the harsh law of the Nationale 2

While it has just celebrated its 60th anniversary, Agde Volley is still well placed in the regional hierarchy, since it is still playing this season in Nationale 2. An already very competitive level, where the former residents of League A (one season) and League B (for ten years!) are trying to save their place, they who currently have seven defeats and two victories this season. Next meeting this Sunday, January 14 in Charrin (3 p.m.), with the reception in Aix-en-Provence.

Basketball: Agde in the soft stomach

With ambitions to move up to the next level, the Agde Basket team is currently in the middle of the N3 rankings. The last meeting to date, last weekend at Tain-Tournon, a late match from the 9th day, ended in a defeat 77 to 103. The men of President Régis Wattez now occupy 9th place ( out of 14 teams) and must react at home on Saturday January 13 at 8:30 p.m., at the Palais des Sports in Agde, when the red lantern, AL Ricamarie, arrives.
