The police intervened following several complaints and a report from the SPA, in this clandestine dog boarding house set up in a large house. Four puppies were collected. The owners of the other animals have been contacted. 

A dog boarding house bordering on unsanitary, which operated without any authorization: this is what the investigators of the discovered. local judicial police service (SLPJ) by intervening, this Thursday, February 15, in a large house located near Parc Méric, in Montpellier. On the property, the dogs were left to their own devices, at the mercy of fights. Some were found in a state of thinness, without however being able to establish a formal link with their living conditions. 

Dog died during his stay

Finally, puppies were housed in a room in the house, moving around in their feces. They had not received any vaccinations or deworming.

The alert was given by the SPA, as well as individuals whose animals had been injured during a stay in the pension. Among the four complaints registered for mistreatment, one even reported the death of a resident during his stay in the non-approved establishment. The owner told the police that his dog had died from an attack by several dogs.

This Thursday, the Montpellier-Mediterranean SPA came to the scene to collect the four puppies. As for the other dogs, the police contacted their owners in order to let them come and collect them.

The investigation revealed that the tenant of the premises, also subject to eviction proceedings for non-payment of rent, was not always present to ;#39;take care of dogs. Arrested in connection with another case, he was placed in police custody. It appeared that customers were contacting him via an internet platform specializing in pet care. The accused had also created his own commercial site.

Be vigilant about the approval of animal boarding facilities

Police encourage dog owners to ensure the quality of the product care of the establishments to which they entrust their companions. The administration reminds that a dog boarding house welcomes up to nine residents must be declared to the DDPP (departmental population protection directorate) and must be able to present a Cerfa document in proof. Beyond of this gauge, the establishment must be declared ICPE (installation classified as environmental protection). The DDPP can proceed to inspections in establishments.
