Argentinian from Montpellier Ezequiel Palacios admits to having gone through difficult times at the start of the season

Interview with the captain of MHSC VB before the reception of Tours for the shock of the 23rd day of League A, Saturday (7:30 p.m.) at the Palais des sports in Castelnau.

Since your return from injury, how do you feel ?

I feel very good, I worked very hard for four months after my knee surgery. Now, I do everything to help the team because it’s the most important.

Was it difficult to stay away from the field for so long ?

For all athletes, being injured and watching all the matches from the stand is complicated. I talked about it a lot with my wife, my family, my friends… hellip; After the operation, I needed psychological help. Now I'm here, I haven't forgotten what happened and I use it every day.

Did becoming a father help you during this period ?

In life, everything happens for good reasons. I first became a father before getting injured a few weeks later. Watching the Argentina national team play was very difficult but I was able to enjoy my daughter and my family. Without them, it would have been even more complicated.

Before the trip to Poitiers on Tuesday for the Coupe de France semi-final, MHSC VB hosts Tours this Saturday in the championship. How is this a special match ?

In France, everyone wants to play against Tours, it's a very good team, a famous club. This will be an important meeting. We know that we would have a chance of winning, it’s the same thing for TVB. You have to take advantage of this moment against a strong opponent. We know what we have to do, we have to believe in our game plan and we'll see what happens.

What is your role in the team at this important time of the season ?

Every match is important for us. We need to win points in the championship. My role is to be there to help others improve. It is very important that everyone is pulling in the same direction. I always put the team first so that they can progress.

You who won the championship in Montpellier in 2022, do you have the feeling that the MHSC can win a title this season ?

Since the start of the season, we have had high goals. I can say we can win a trophy. We work for that. But it’s not easy, many other teams want to win too.

To choose, would you prefer to be French champion with Montpellier or Olympic champion with Argentina in Paris this summer ?

The answer is very easy: Olympic champion. It’s the best for a volleyball player and for all athletes. Being an Olympic champion allows you to enter the history of your country. The feeling of representing your country, wearing the Argentinian flag, it’s magnificent.
