As the Olympics approach, Gard is mobilizing for an Olympic Day organized at the University of Nîmes

Initiations, démonstrations, expositions… l’événement se déroulera le samedi 22 juin prochain, entre 10 h et 17 h, sur le site Vauban.

The countdown has begun before the start of the Paris Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11. For the occasion, the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee (CDOS) of Gard, in collaboration with the University of Nîmes, is organizing the Gard Olympic Day on Saturday, June 22, between 10 a.m. and ;nbsp;17 h.

An attractive program

Many activities are planned to celebrate this day: sports initiations, demonstrations, exhibitions, meetings and signings with high-level athletes from Gard. "We hope that as many as possible will respond present", warns Nathalie Pourrias, coordinator and development manager of the Gard CDOS. "For the moment, only Enzo Giorgi (fencing) and Lou-Anne Pouzancre-Hoyer (athletics) will be sure to be there", she specifies.

A treasure hunt and a photobooth with the mascots of the Paris 2024 Games will also punctuate the day. These activities will be led by the clubs and departmental committees of the Gard sports movement, present to introduce their disciplines and promote the values ​​of sport and Olympics.

A taste of the Olympics

The organizers expect a strong participation of the public to take part in the various activities proposed, "even if one might think that on a Saturday, at&rsquo ;university, there won’not many people". Throughout the day, around fifteen activities will be offered to the public, including& ;nbsp;: handball; volleyball; table tennis; athletics; fencing; judo…

Also, the day before the event, nearly 300 students will have the opportunity to test the activities during a day dedicated to schoolchildren. Some will participate as part of the Cordées de la voix, a program aimed at encouraging academic and professional ambition.

To enhance the day, a food truck will be present on site, offering participants the opportunity to eat on site.

Practical: open to the public on the Vauban site, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday June 22. Free admission.
