Avenue de Vanières returns to its original configuration after eight months of work.

After eight months of work related to tram line 5, Avenue de Vanières returns to its original configuration this Monday, September 2, with two lanes of traffic. A redevelopment that should considerably improve the flow of automobile traffic in this entire sector, from the Grand-M to the central kitchens.

This is good news for the many motorists who use it every day: from this Monday, Avenue de Vanières, in front of the rugby stadium, will return to two-lane traffic. A return to normal after eight months of particularly heavy work.

A congested sector

"This project, the largest since 2021 in Montpellier, was long because the community chose to take over and repair all the underground networks, for example to combat drinking water leaks" specifies the Métropole in a press release.

The project also made it possible to lay the rails for the future tram line 5 on this section. The reduction in car traffic to a single lane on each side, in the direction of Grand-M cuisines centrales and that coming from La Chamberte to the same roundabout, caused significant traffic difficulties during this period, which should therefore be reduced.

These traffic jams also impacted the routes of bus lines 15 (Place de l’Europe-Sabines) and 38, as well as the Ovalie shuttle set up to Les Sabines.
Finally, the Métropole indicates that these eight months of work have made it possible to improve the sidewalks and create safer cycle routes.
