The Livret A rate will not change in the coming months. MAXPPP – Richard Villalon

The Council of State refused the requests of law professor Paul Cassia, who called for lifting the freeze on the Livret A rate at 3%.

The decision has been made: the Livret A rate will remain frozen at 3% until January 31, 2025, reports Moneyvox. The Council of State announced this Monday, February 19 that the passbook rate used by 55 million French people would not change over this period.

On July 13, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire announced that the rate of the famous red booklet would remain stuck at 3% for the next 18 months. The decree was published on July 28, 2023.

A decision poorly received by some savers. In the formula for calculating the rate of the Livret A, the latter must be indexed to the level of inflation excluding tobacco, just like that of the LEP. Thus, without the freeze, the rate of Livret A should have reached 4.1%.

Exceptional circumstances"

Paul Cassia, professor of public law at Panthéon-Sorbonne University, had filed an appeal before the Council of State so that' a verification is carried out on the "exceptional circumstances" invoked and on the legality of the blocking of the Livret A rate for 18 months taken by decree on the 28th July.

As the latter's request has not been received, you will not see the rate of your passbook increase in the coming months.
