An inmate from the Béziers remand center was found lifeless on Wednesday May 29 at the Gasquinoy penitentiary center. The alert was given in the morning and the guards, once in the cell, found the prisoner unconscious, a pair of socks in his mouth and a bag on his head.

The Béziers public prosecutor's office opened a preliminary investigation while the deceased's co-inmate was interviewed.

According to our information, suicide is being considered. The victim, incarcerated for having killed his disabled partner, has already tried to end his life on several occasions. An autopsy should be carried out at the Montpellier forensic medicine service to determine the precise cause of death.
