Break between the RN and Robert Ménard: the mayor of Béziers denounces “a kind of excommunication”

Reading the remarks made by the Biterrois Julien Gabarron in Midi Libre this Sunday, March 3, which clearly recorded "divorce" between the RN and the mayor of Béziers, the latter reacts again. It is thus at the local level that accounts seem to be settled between these two political entities which had, until now, been able to benefit from a form of partnership which is now buried.

Following the publication in Midi Libre Béziers, of the interview with Biterrois Julien Gabarron, new departmental head of the RN , which signified a break in the party with regard to Robert Ménard, the latter wanted to react and highlight his local action. : "In this interview, what jumps out at me is something missing: not a word about Béziers. Nothing about security, cleanliness, or the beautification of our city. Nothing about defending our traditions, about the Christmas nativity scene, about the school uniform. Nothing about my refusal to marry an illegal alien under the obligation to leave the territory. But, on the other hand, a sort of excommunication, he writes.

"We have never hidden our differences with the RN"

"With Emmanuelle (Ménard, deputy for Hérault), we have never hidden our differences with the RN. And this is not from yesterday. On Covid vaccines. On his proposals in economic and social matters which we consider unrealistic. On his fascination with Mr. Putin. On his anti-Americanism. On his lack of solidarity with Alexeï Navalny, the Russian dissident who died in prison. On the lack of seriousness of his fight alongside our wine growers…"

"Getting back to basics"

"This is why we have never been members of this party. That does not prevent us from count in the ranks of the municipal majority RN activists as well as members of the Republicans. This is our way of creating this union of rights. It’s another way of doing politics. I learned a lot from my mandate as mayor: use common sense, prefer actions to postures. And above all, get back to the basics: is our city doing better than ten years ago ? I am waiting for the response from this RN manager which I do not don't know.
