Nonagenarian killed by a dog: the free breeder

#GARDOn May 23, a 93-year-old former elected official from Canaules-et-Argentières was killed by a dog while she was paying her respects at a grave in the cemetery. The animal had been identified and its breeder arrested. At the time of the incident, it had been entrusted to an intern.

The breeder is suspected of having asked her sons to evacuate the dog before the arrival of the police and to clean it to remove traces of blood. She had been incarcerated since her indictment on May 30. She is suspected of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with a crime scene. The investigating judge directly ordered his release on Thursday evening.

Bluetongue: two outbreaks of variant 8

#HÉRAULT Two outbreaks of variant 8 of bluetongue have been identified in the Fraisse-sur-Agout and Courniou/Saint-Pons-de-Thomières areas. This virus, which does not affect humans, can cause hyperthermia, difficulty moving, mouth ulcers and can even cause death in affected animals.

To date, Hérault is not affected by variant 3, which is currently raging in the northern half of France. In addition, a case of epizootic haemorrhagic disease (EHD) has just been detected in the same Courniou/Saint-Pons sector.

Prefect François-Xavier Lauch “reiterates the importance, in the event of suggestive signs, of calling a veterinarian who can screen the animals”.He also points out that "there is an effective and available vaccine to combat the effects of variant 8 of bluetongue" and urges farmers to vaccinate their animals to prevent the spread of this variant in the department.

The A69 ZAD evacuated

#TARN This Friday, August 30, in the early morning, an evacuation operation of the ZAD set up against the project of The A69 has been launched, announces La Dépêche du Midi. For the authorities, it was a question of “liberating the illegally occupied site”, two days before the date when tree felling can legally resume on the route of the future motorway between Castres and Toulouse.

A restaurant closed by authority

Instead of the 24,000 people hoped for over the three evenings, 12,500 spectators attended the three evenings. John Bertrand, the director, still wants to believe in a sustainable future. He is appealing to local authorities and private partners to organize a fourth edition.
