Cap d'Agde: at the Old Port, we are improving the working environment for fishermen

Nose of platforms replaced, sales stalls redesigned, camouflaged nets… Sodéal is starting work on this square which attracts buyers every day of the year.

Agathois or vacationers, many of them appreciate being able to buy their fish every morning on the quays of the Old Port, near the harbor master's office, welcomed by a handful of small-scale fishermen who have made it their own. base camp for many years now.

A meeting full of authenticity – local accent and smells of fillets guaranteed! – that Sodéal, the company managing the town's ports, has decided to anchor a little more in the daily life of the resort.

Lionel Catanzano signs the metal fishnet

Decision has in fact been made to offer a boost to this place in the coming weeks. Starting with the dock noses – these wooden beams as old as Cap d’Agde – which will be replaced by concrete elements, as is also currently the case on the quays of Beaupré and La Trinquette. "The sales stalls of fish will also be reorganized", announces the director of Sodéal, David Masella. Finally, with the objective of concealing as much as possible the large plastic bins which are used to store the nets and signaling buoys, a privacy screen in the style of the metal mesh which surrounds the Palais des Congrès or the Barrière casino will be installed on the site. This time, it will not be Hervé Di Rosa who will sign the patterns that will make up the decor, but an “in-house” in the person of Lionel Catanzano, who is also an agent of Sodéal.

A promotion of small trades

For David Masella, these investments – the preparation of the site has been entrusted to port agents, a company will then be responsible for replacing the dock nosings – participate "in the development of small trades." To that of the station as well, since the platforms of the & rsquo;Ile des Pêcheurs are also being renovated during the winter.

Visibly, the message from the Regional Chamber of Accounts, which pointed to a lack of investment in recent years, was well heard.
