CASE. Social assistance for children, a system “out of steam”: a debate at Midi Libre to talk about it

Claire Hédon, Véronique Calueba, Aurélien Robert, Sylvain Loubet et l'adjudante Léa Milheau participent aux prochaines Rencontres d'Occitanie.

The next meeting of the Reonctres d'Occitanie, this Thursday, May 16, at the Midi Libre headquarters in Saint-Jean-de-Védas will be devoted to the care and monitoring of children placed at the center. Child welfare.

A quarter of the homeless in France come from child welfare. An observation which says a lot about the difficulties encountered by these young people but also by institutions faced with an increasing number of requests. Associations and communities are warning but the problems persist. Lack of places, violence, exhausted staff and difficult to recruit, decisions not implemented: "the system is running out of steam" denounces Lyes Louffok, child rights activist. Last week, he organized a gathering in memory of the children who died during their placement. Currently in France, 3,300 children in danger are waiting for a place.

This Thursday, May 16, from 6 p.m. at the Midi Libre headquarters in Saint-Jean-de-Védas, the new meeting of the Occitanie meetings will focus on the problem of their taking in charge and their monitoring.

Five guests at the round table

Are invited: Claire Hédon, rights defender; Véronique Calueba, vice-president of the Hérault Department responsible for childhood and family solidarity; Aurélien Robert, lawyer and president of the Lawyer and Child association; Warrant Officer Léa Milheau, deputy commander of the Family Protection House unit and Sylvain Louvet, journalist.
