Celebrities, rise… we explain to you why the phenomenon of home-jackings should be taken with a grain of salt

In 2023, there were 8% more home-jackings compared to 2022. Figures to put into perspective: this corresponds to 515 in 2023, or 1.4 per day throughout France. We explain this "phenomenon". 

It happened every day last year: a host sequestered at home, retirees abused in their cellar by fake Suez agents, a young influencer surprised by a man who claimed to be his neighbor… homejackings are a lot of talk, which raises questions about what some are already calling "a phenomenon& ;quot;.

Are they really increasing ? 

Not so much. According to the Central Office for the Fight against Organized Crime, there is an increase of 8% in France between 2022 and 2023, this follows a decrease in previous years. There were 585 in 2019, compared to 475 three years later.

This only affects celebrities ?

Yes and no. Certainly, we observe a lot of home-jacking among celebrities, but it is more linked to their resources and their habits. Any person, suspected of having good living conditions according to the robbers, can be targeted.

However, many celebrities share their daily lives on social networks, it's often even part of their work. They show valuable objects,  protection systems for their home… valuable information for burglars.
