Coca-Cola recall: Canned drinks flagged for coating containing bisphenol A

On September 24, 2024, the Rappel conso website reported several references of drinks sold in cans. And in particular, Coca-Cola, original flavor. The reason? The presence of bisphenol A in the coating.

Check your cans. Rappel conso publishes a series of reports for cans sold in Mayotte. The coating on their packaging was allegedly made from bisphenol A, a chemical substance banned in food.

Several cans affected

Several cans are affected by the “presence of an interior coating of epoxy resin produced from bisphenol A", notes the government website.

These are Coca Cola Original Taste (Lot P14JUN24MT3 – 12 : 55BB14JUN2 (), Star Cola (Lot P05042024), Cheers Orange flavor (Lot EX : 18-11-24 & ;lt; 14:48 >), Rita Guyava (Lot MFD : 15/05/2023-EX : 15/052025) and Ice Coffe Cappuccino (GTIN 4711476616447 Lot P  nbsp;: 11.04.2023 13:01/
E: 11.04.2025 L-1104C).

Consumers are urged to bring back these cans and especially not to drink them. They will be reimbursed.

Reprotoxic

The cans were recalled because they “exceed the safety threshold” for bisphenol A, or BPA. According to l’Anses, It is a substance identified as reprotoxic – which can induce reproductive disorders. It could also be a disruptor&nbsp ;endocrine.

The agency had "confirmed the health effects highlighted in 2011, particularly for pregnant women in view of the potential risks to the unborn child.

“Since the January 1, 2015, it is banned in baby bottles and other food containers. This legislation should lead to a very significant reduction in the level of exposure to bisphenol A through food, explains the Food Safety Agency.
