Concrete blocks on Frontignan beach: the mystery remains as complete as ever
|Les trois blocs de la plage de Frontignan n'ont pas encore dévoilé leur mystère.
Le coup de mer de fin mars a dégagé trois énigmatiques blocs en béton sur la plage de Frontignan.
Fifteen days after the discovery of three reinforced concrete blocks on Frontignan beach, we don't know much more. These elements were released by the sea surge at the end of March which caused almost 1.70 m of sand to disappear in certain places. And revealed these curiosities in the area of the center of Mouettes.
This Monday, April 14, Carole Briffaud, the head of the city archives, went to the site in the company of Anne Montecinos, from the archeology department of the agglomeration of Sète, and three volunteers (Céline Laurens, Jérôme Caubel and the local Second World War specialist Régis Calazel) in order to clear these blocks and thus advance the investigations. "I wanted to have the scientific expertise of a service close to the city", explains Carole Briffaud.
Use for fishing and for a discarded military vocation
The elements – two in a square cup and one with three compartments – have been inspected in every way. Apart from the fact that they are actually reinforced with iron structures and that they were not deposited there by the sea –"each must weigh at least one ton", comments the head of municipal archives – everyone scratches their heads over their usefulness. For the moment, it seems that this concerns neither the field of fishing nor that of the Second World War.
Who has photos of the area concerned ?
So, in addition to consulting the Drassm (Department of Underwater and Underwater Archaeological Research), Carole Briffaud also launches an appeal to the memory of the oldest Frontignanais. That coming from their neurons but also that, certainly more tangible, of photographic documents of the sector concerned. A detail may be hidden there. It could then make it possible to considerably advance the investigation into this thick mystery.
