Consumer recall: trays of mussels that expired a month ago and were sold at Leclerc recalled due to an error in the expiry date

Leclerc sold mussels that had expired a month ago due to a labeling problem. The batch was recalled and consumers are urged not to eat them.

Leclerc is recalling a batch of bouchot mussels due to a labeling error, as reported by the Rappel Conso website. Health authorities are warning of a microbiological risk, stating that “the consumer risks consuming the product after the true use-by date”.

The trays concerned are “bouchot mussels from the bay of Mont Saint Michel AOP” weighing 700 g or 1.4 kg, sold on September 2, with a use-by date of September 9. Only the batch with the mention “Hignard 02” is affected by this recall.

Gastrointestinal disorders

Recall Conso notes that “food poisoning caused by salmonella results in gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhea, vomiting) of sudden onset often accompanied by fever and headache”, which generally appear six to seventy-two hours after consumption of the contaminated product. These symptoms can be more severe in young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised people and the elderly.

People who have consumed these products and who experience these symptoms are invited to consult their doctor and report this consumption. In the absence of symptoms within 7 days after consuming the affected products, there is no need to worry and consult a doctor. If the product must be cooked before consumption: cooking the products (hard-boiled eggs, pastries, poultry meat, etc.) to +65°C destroys these bacteria and prevents the consequences of such contamination.
