For the second time in less than a year, Nazi tags were discovered on the site of the monument in homage to the Martyrs of the resistance and the deportees of Rose- rock, in Sète. Swastikas, the acronym SS and the name of Hitler were spray-painted, notably on the work of the Sète artist Jean Denant.

Call to rally against "obscurantism and’extremism"

This Monday, the mayor of Sète expressed his anger at these inscriptions "ignoble and imbecile" came "to defile this monument on the very date of the day of remembrance of the victims of deportation, murdered in the concentration camps". François Commeinhes specifies having filed a complaint. This Monday, March 29, the tags had been cleaned according to the municipality.

"We want to go further and loudly proclaim our republican and humanist values ​​in the face of obscurantism and extremism which disgrace our democracy", specifies the mayor, who calls on the Sétois to gather, this Friday, May 3 at 6 p.m., on the Maréchal-Leclerc promenade site .
