The commemoration of the victory of May 8, 1945 took place in two stages in Bagnols: a ceremony at the war memorial and another in Square Joseph-Thome. Yann Gérard, under -prefect of the district of Nîmes read the message from the Minister of the Armed Forces.

The 79th anniversary of the victory of the Allies over Nazi Germany during the Second World War was celebrated this Wednesday, May 8 in Bagnols-sur-Cèze. The ceremony began at 11 a.m. at the war memorial in the presence of Yann Gérard, secretary general, sub-prefect of the district of Nîmes who read the message from the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu. Mayor Jean-Yves Chapelet, municipal elected officials, the RN deputy for the 3rd constituency of Gard, Pascale Bordes, and the Veterans' Association laid wreaths at the foot of the war memorial. Ten students from the defense class of the Sainte-Marie high school, standard bearers, Red Cross volunteers, firefighters, around fifteen legionnaires from the 1st foreign engineering regiment of Laudun-l’Ardoise, the commander of the national police and that of the Bagnols gendarmerie company attended the ceremony. After a moment of contemplation, the Bagnolaise peña del fuego played the Marseillaise.

At the head of the procession, the Bagnolais music group then accompanied elected officials, civil authorities and associations to Square Joseph-Thome where new wreaths were laid.
