Energy check 2024: are you entitled to this aid of 150 euros on average to pay for your gas and electricity ?

The 2024 energy check will be sent between April and May to the 5.8 million eligible beneficiaries. Its amount amounts on average to 150 euros. 

Generalized in 2018 to replace social energy tariffs, the energy check is state aid paid under means conditions for the payment of energy bills energy (in gas and electricity), the purchase of fuel and certain energy works. It concerns 5.6 million French households and its amount is between 48 and 277 euros, for an average amount of 150 euros. 

"There will be no losers"

It is automatically paid each year between the months of April and May. However, due to a "quack" administrative, family and consumer associations have expressed concern that a million beneficiaries will be deprived of this system this year, even though they meet the criteria to obtain it. The fault is the abolition of the housing tax which prevents the identification of households eligible to benefit from it. 

"Le chèque énergie sera versé début avril. Il n'y aura aucun perdant ! Toutes les personnes qui y ont droit parce qu'ils sont en situation de précarité, qu'ils ont des revenus modestes, qu'ils sont étudiants… Ils y auront droit."

The Minister of Economy and Finance nevertheless affirmed on the set of C à vous on France 5 that "all those who are entitled to the energy check will receive it (…)  There will be no losers", conceding that "for technical reasons linked to the abolition of the energy tax ;#39;housing, certain beneficiaries risk not receiving the energy check to which they are entitled. 

Claims counter

A simplified complaints desk will be set up to allow all affected households to request one online, before the end of May. If by this date you have not received your transfer, you will need to check that you are eligible for this assistance. To do this, it is necessary to respect the ceilings already in force last year and display a lower reference tax income (RFR) per consumption unit (CU) at 11,000 euros. The Ministry of Economy and Finance provides an online simulator to find out if you are entitled to the energy check. 

According to Le Parisien, the million households who should not have received the check in 2024 will still have the surprise of receiving it by mail. No reimbursement will be requested, said Bercy, which estimates that this hiccup will result in an additional cost of 100 million euros.
