Esso carried out its annual review on the Mobil rehabilitation site in Frontignan

Au petit jeu du avant-après, le site de Frontignan a beaucoup évolué. DR

La société a fait le point sur l’avancement du chantier de réhabilitation de l’ancienne raffinerie Mobil de Frontignan.

This is part of Esso's commitments as part of the land rehabilitation project at the former Mobil refinery in Frontignan. Every year, Hervé De Gréef, the environmental manager of Esso SAF, belonging to the ExxonMobil group, holds a review meeting of the past year with the various stakeholders of this gigantic project – 11 hectares to be made as clean as possible – intended in particular for residents of the neighborhood.

The southern part treated

This stage point took place on Tuesday June 18 in the courtyard of Lepap Maurice-Clavel, very close to the site of this unprecedented rehabilitation. And if we want a summary of this work, it would be the following: everything is going well and everything is happening on time. Thus the entire southern part of the site, on the hydrocarbon depot side, was treated. It now houses the storage tent for extracted and sorted soil which was until then located almost in the middle of the field. It will be joined during the summer by the water treatment plant.

The inflatable tent will wander again

Also note that, during the year, the old technical services hangars were razed. For its part, the mobile tent, under which excavations take place up to a maximum depth of 5 meters, after having swept the bottom of the site, has been raised a notch. Currently placed against the railway line, it will, when the area has been treated, move laterally towards the Rhône canal in Sète. Before going up a notch and so on.

The future liberated parking lot

Finally, the northern part, closest to the villas, has been completely rehabilitated. It can now accommodate the construction site of the cultural center parking lot. At the end of discussions on Tuesday, the City presented images of the future footbridge which will span the canal.

End of excavations in 2025

"We are halfway through the project, commented Hervé De Gréef. We do what we said while trying to inconvenience the local residents as little as possible". And all this on time and on budget. For the moment, the schedule is based on an end to the excavations at the end of 2025 and a demobilization of teams and facilities on the site in March 2026.
