It was a surprise: the mayor of Montpellier Michaël Delafosse came to attend this inauguration and spoke during the ceremony. A.C.

If there was a need for proof of the recognition and respect that the artist Jean Hugo arouses, she was there, this Wednesday evening, June 19, on the square in front of the Médard museum, at the ;rsquo;time of the opening of the exhibition that the municipal building is currently devoting to him and until Sunday, September 22.

A cultural event called as soberly as intimately “Jean Hugo, the magic look – His life in Lunel from 1920 to 1984”.

The monumental work of Médard's team highlighted

His children (six out of the seven he had with Lauretta; Charles, the eldest, was unable to come), obviously the elected officials of the City, including the mayor Pierre Soujol and the ;rsquo;deputy for culture Corinne Poleri, but also – and this was a surprise – the mayor of Montpellier Michael Delafosse and the deputy for museums Claude Muslin, representing the mayor of Sète François Commeinhes, made up the audience of personalities who came celebrate this highlight on the great-grandson of Victor Hugo which resonates in three places (*).

The various speeches highlighted the notoriety mixed with the simplicity of the man and the artist, notably that of the new director of the Médard museum, Valérie Dumoulin, who insisted on the work monumental work carried out by the team for this local monument in the country of Lunel.

It is also in the world of Jean Hugo and following in his footsteps that the Bam company, from the association La Boîte à malice, took, during five performances, the audience. A strong moment from every point of view and on all counts.
