Kiosk closure: traders worried
#MONTPELLIER Work is starting again on the Charles-de-Gaulle esplanade in Montpellier. The kiosks will close on Sunday and the bars will no longer have a terrace. No reopening planned before next June. A delay that sows despair and anxiety for the traders concerned, especially since they have already experienced mixed fortunes during the first phases of work. Distraught, these professionals also say "abandoned".
They would like to be better supported, better informed. And compensated. The owner of a food kiosk whose concession is coming to an end is forced to lay off his staff and is not certain he will apply again in June.
Trèbes and Carcassonne attacks: an appeal trial
#AUDE According to L’Indépendant, the appeal trial for the Trèbes and Carcassonne attacks will take place from January 26 to February 20, 2026. It involves three defendants, including the two main ones: Samir Manaa (the terrorist's best friend) and Marine Pequignot (his ex-girlfriend) but also Baghdad Haddaoui, convicted for failure to report a terrorist crime.
The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office had appealed the verdict handed down on February 23, 2024 by the specially composed Assize Court. Samir Manaa had been sentenced to three years in prison while the prosecution had requested ten. Marine Pequignot was sentenced to three years in prison while eleven years had been requested.

#HÉRAULT The Hérault departmental emergency call center is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It combines firefighters, emergency services, ambulance drivers and doctors on the same telephone platform and allows coordinated management of interventions for each call.
Each year, several hundred thousand calls (500,000 for emergency services alone) pass through this platform. Private clinics could soon be involved.
Three diseases that worry breeders
#AVEYRON For several weeks, Aveyron breeders have been worried as their herds have been affected by three diseases. In August 2023, with the detection of a new strain of serotype 8 of the bluetongue virus (BTV), then in September 2023, with the arrival of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD), and finally, on August 5, when the first case of a new serotype, 3, of BT was detected.
Three diseases that can be fatal to animals, “but which do not concern humans”, specify the heads of the FDSEA and JA. The situation was deemed sufficiently worrying for the leaders of the two main agricultural unions to meet with parliamentarians.
These various diseases can lead to production and birth declines, or even the loss of animals. The unions are calling for a vaccination campaign. They are also demanding that losses be compensated and that the movement of animals be facilitated, after their vaccination and with a PCR test.
Wind farm rejected
#AVEYRON The Council of State has ruled in favor of the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO), which is opposed to the construction of wind turbines in Arnac-sur-Dourdou. A decision eagerly awaited by opponents who believe that it seriously harms biodiversity. The case is referred to the Toulouse administrative court of appeal.
This decision comes two months after the one concerning the La Baume wind farm (Aveyron) in which the Council of State had already followed the LPO which contested the absence of a protected species exemption.
