Fire breaks out in Vergèze, very close to the A9 motorway, 31 firefighters are deployed to contain it

1 000 m2 sont partis en fumée à la suite d’un incendie qui s’est déclaré au niveau du Puech du Pescalet à Vergèze.

Some 31 Gard firefighters intervened late in the afternoon on Monday 19 August in the town of Vergèze, near the A9 motorway, to put out a vegetation fire. The large-scale detachment enabled the firefighters to contain the fire and limit its extent to 1,000 m2.

Four drops made

In support, the Gard firefighters' water bombing helicopter was engaged and made 4 drops. Clean-up operations are currently underway. The Gard firefighters and the authorities remind us that the risk of fire is significant during this period and that it is necessary to exercise caution.

Two massifs on orange alert

The risk of fire remains very high during this period. While the Gigean sector, in Hérault, has just experienced a very large fire, the Gard massifs remain under alert. For this Tuesday, August 20, two are placed on orange alert, namely the Gard Rhodanien massif and that of Costières-Petite-Camargue.

Orange alert implies that any use of fire is prohibited, that authorized work is allowed but from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. (provide an appropriate extinguishing device). Camping and bivouacking are prohibited while access is discouraged and motorized traffic is regulated in the forest.
