Former Brazilian international Dani Alves, convicted in Spain of rape, has repaid the 150,000 euros loaned to him by Neymar's father to pay for his defense, his lawyer announced on Wednesday.

"Dani Alves returned the 150 000 euros to Neymar (father) a week ago", indicated lawyer Ines Guardiola, without revealing the reasons for this reimbursement.

The father of Brazilian national team star player Neymar Santos said in January that he had financially helped Alves, who had not been convicted at the time, a gesture which sparked much criticism in Brazil.

Deposit of one million euros

In March, a month after the former international defender was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, he denied that he, his son or his family would post bail for a million euros set by the Spanish courts for conditional release pending the appeal trial.

Convicted of rape dating from late 2022

Alves, 40, was released on March 25 from the prison where he had been detained since the end of January 2023 after paying his bail. The ex-star of FC Barcelona, ​​Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain was found guilty of raping a woman in the toilets of a Barcelona nightclub at the end of 2022, in his return from the World Cup in Qatar. A Barcelona court on Wednesday rejected the appeals of the prosecution and the civil party against the release of the footballer.
