The first French club to enter the competition, Lille lost on the pitch of Sporting Lisbon, Tuesday, September 17, while the French striker of Real scored while Bayern had fun and the goalkeeper of the Blues came off injured.

Lille was no match

Lille, reduced to 10 men and rarely dangerous on the opposing goal, logically lost (2-0) against Sporting for its entry into the competition in the new format of the Champions League, Tuesday in Lisbon. The Portuguese club won thanks to goals from its Swedish center forward Viktor Gyökeres (38th) and its Belgian defender Zeno Debast (65th), author of a superb long-range strike into the top corner of Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. Lille midfielder Angel Gomes was sent off for a second booking shortly before the break (40th minute).

Mbappé opens his European account with Real

Defending champion Real Madrid suffered but ended up winning 3-1 against Stuttgart with experience, including a goal from their star recruit Kyllian Mbappé, his first with the Merengue in the Champions League, on Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Shaken by VfB, whose first appearance in the Champions League since March 2010, the Madrilenians scored thanks to Mbappé who only had to push the ball away from a pinpoint cross from Rodrygo (46th). If Undav had equalized afterwards (68th), Rüdiger (83rd) then the substitute Endrick (90+ 5) avoided a huge surprise.

Maignan, the exit that worries

AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan went off injured early in the second half of his team's Champions League match against Liverpool (1-3) on Tuesday. Maignan, 29, was injured in the left knee following a collision with Portuguese player Diogo Jota who was going through on goal alone (48th minute). The former Lille player immediately showed that he was seriously injured. He was treated on the pitch by AC Milan's medical staff, before having to give way to the young reserve team goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani (19) for his first-team debut. Maignan had already had two warnings in the first half, complaining of pain in a thigh and an ankle. In the first half, he had conceded two headed goals, from Ibrahima Konaté and Virgil van Dijk, for which he was responsible.

Bayern piles on, Juve impresses

Bayern Munich and Juventus Turin got off to a perfect start in the Champions League on Tuesday. The Germans swept aside Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 at the Allianz Arena for Belgian Vincent Kompany's European debut on the Bavarian bench. His players offered an offensive festival with a quadruple from Harry Kane (19th sp, 57th, 73rd sp, 78th sp), a double from French recruit Michael Olise (38th, 61st) and goals from Raphaël Guerreiro (33rd), Leroy Sané (85th) and Leon Goretzka (90th+2). The Italians, for their part, returned to Europe after being deprived of it last season, a sanction for non-compliance with financial fair play. Against PSV Eindhoven, the first goal (21st), a superb curling shot into the top corner by Turkish prodigy Kenan Yildiz (19 years old), put Thiago Motta's Old Lady on the right track. McKennie, preferred to Khéphren Thuram, then Nico Gonzalez completed a conclusive first success.
