It is shy in comparison to the amphitheaters of Nîmes or Arles, but the Tempéras arena has its history. And, told on Friday May 10 by tour guide Benjamin Gay, it never ceases to surprise.

A story told with passion and education by Benjamin Gay, tour guide at the tourist office, in front of around thirty visitors gathered, Friday May 10, at the foot of the building. Starting with its inauguration in 1891, after a short-lived wooden version installed in 1854 at Place des Martyrs, on regularly waterlogged grounds…
Inspiring its name from Tempéras but strategically located not far from the Rhône station, which has now disappeared, and installed on the Conilhères site, in order to facilitate the arrival of aficionados…

Blanche de Brouzet, Méjannes sandstone or Pont du Gard stone

From an architectural point of view, the monument is made up of local materials, Brouzet white, Méjannes sandstone or Pont du Gard stone, and bears on its pediment the old spelling of the city, Alais, following a clerical error during the signing of the peace of the same name in 1629… The municipal council will restore the thing in 1926.

Having become a common storage space, the town hall bought the arenas in 1960 and, faced with its state of disrepair, launched a call for subscriptions for its renovation.

Friday May 9, a “No hay billetes” memorable, with nearly 3,000 spectators gathered on the stands during the Ace trophy race…

317 people responded to the call and the arenas were inaugurated again on June 18, 1966. They became a setting for a live show while the bullfighting shows eventually lost intensity and were interrupted in 1978. C’ It was in 1989 that the municipality launched the Mange-tripes feria but had to argue in court about an uninterrupted bullfighting tradition in order to be able to stage bullfights. The decision will set a precedent since without there having been any killing of bulls for more than ten years, the existence of bullfighting clubs has made it possible to prove the maintenance of a tradition. Which has lasted for 33 years now and which experienced, Friday May 9, a “No hay billetes” memorable, with nearly 3,000 spectators gathered on the stands during the As…
