Futsal: Hamza Aarab and the Montpellier residents are already preparing for next season in Division 1 at the Palais des sports Coubertin

Hamza Aarab, coordinateur sportif de club de Montpellier. MMF – MMF

Auréolé du titre de champion de D2, le MMF joue son dernier de la saison au gymnase Jean-Bouin de Montpellier, samedi (15h30). Entretien avec le coordinateur sportif du club qui retrouve la Division, six ans après.

Last Saturday, the team won their ticket to Division 1. What is your feeling??

The first thing that comes to mind is to ask what we do from now on (laughs). Last year, we were close to wanting to give up. When we reach the end of a season, we want to know what the future will be like. Just after the match at Garges last Saturday, I moved on to the next season. Ambition never stops.

With Mohamed Ghoubir, the coach, you never gave up’hellip;

There have always been other people by our side but without Mohamed, it would not have been the same. We both have the same state of mind, we walk by feeling. It’s a human adventure and that’s all it is. We must not forget that the arrival of Ali Arab as president in 2023 gave new life and allowed the club to take the last step.

For years, the objective was to put Montpellier back in its place, in Division 1?

This is what has driven us for six years. The club was killed administratively, we had to get over that. But above all, put Montpellier in its place. The role of the MMF has always been to take futsal to the top. Back in D1, our concern is to know what we will bring to the discipline and to high-level Montpellier sport. We want to make each match an event, a spectacle.

This involves a return to the Palais des sports Pierre-de-Coubertin ?

Without this Sports Palace, this will not be possible. In Division 1, the federation requires that we play in a category 1 gymnasium. It must be remembered that initially, the work was decided to bring the room up to futsal standards. But we don't want to just play in this place. We want to be a resident club while sharing it with other Montpellier clubs. We've been wandering around for 20 years, it's time to have the place we deserve. We ask neither more nor less. We want the same consideration as other professional clubs. Volleyball, basketball, handball, football and rugby have their own space… The city's football clubs have their stadium. Why not futsal? We work and discuss with the communities in this direction.
