Gendarme killed in Mougins: suspect in fatal refusal to comply indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention

After his police custody was lifted, the man suspected of hitting and killing a police officer during a refusal to comply in Mougins was indicted this Wednesday, August 28 and placed in pre-trial detention.

The man arrested after the death of Éric Comyn, the police officer hit on the A8 near Mougins while refusing to comply on Monday 26 August, was indicted on Wednesday 28 August and placed in pre-trial detention, according to the prosecution relayed by BFMTV.

The suspect, arrested in Cannes and tested positive for alcohol, claimed during his hearing to have hit the police officer "unintentionally" and, “in a panic, left the scene”, as specified by the public prosecutor of Grasse.

10 convictions

The 39-year-old driver of the vehicle is known to be a “road offender” for several years, with a criminal record including 10 convictions, including for violence against a person in authority, contempt, and driving while intoxicated. The psychiatric examination carried out concluded that “his full criminal responsibility”.

Several tribute ceremonies were organized this Wednesday to honor Éric Comyn, notably on the Côte d'Azur in the presence of his family, his colleagues and many elected officials. “France killed my husband by its laxity, by its inadequacy”, declared his widow in Mandelieu-la-Napoule.
