After the early municipal election of April 28 in Pont-Saint-Esprit, during which the list of Gérome Bouvier was elected in the first round, the municipal council of Pont-Saint-Esprit decided gathered on Saturday May 4 to elect the new mayor and his nine deputies. The RN did not fail to ask the mayor the question about his membership in the Horizons party.

More than 200 Spiripontans and supporters of elected officials came to attend on Saturday morning, May 4, the election of the new mayor Gérome Bouvier and his nine deputies, the maximum threshold for a town of 10,781 inhabitants. A candidate passed in the first round of the early election on April 28, facing outgoing mayor Claire Lapeyronie and National Rally candidate Emmanuel Le Pargneux.

Chaired, before the actual election of the mayor, by the dean of the new municipal council Gérard Guillen, 79 years old, – a running mate of Gérome Bouvier –, the session began solemnly, with the call of elected officials and the reminder of the results of the election. With the obtaining of 50.39% of the votes cast on April 28, the majority list obtains 25 seats out of the 33 in the municipal council and 8 seats on the municipal council. rsquo;agglomeration of Rhone Gard of the 10 which return to Pont-Saint-Esprit.

Six RN elected officials in the Gard Rhone agglomeration, Claire Lapeyronie will no longer sit in the Agglo

In opposition will sit six members from the RN list, and two elected officials from the list of outgoing mayor Claire Lapeyronie. If two RN elected officials go to the agglomeration, Claire Lapeyronie, until now first vice-president of the Agglo will no longer have anyone from her camp to represent her voice.

A clear score for Gérome Bouvier, except for the opposition RN, which did not fail to raise the question of the membership of the new mayor of Pont -Saint-Esprit at Edouard Philippe’s Horizons party. "Less than an hour after your victory, we learned that you held responsibilities within the Horizons party even though you had claimed that you were apolitical [… ]. Have you been completely transparent ? Spiripontans feel betrayed […] We cannot trust a man without conviction, that’s why we will vote against your election and that's why I'm running" said Emmanuel Le Pargneux.

Same insistence from his running mate Pierre Meurin, RN deputy for the 4th constituency of Gard. "I got involved because I am allergic to macronism […] You must assume your municipal label, you support the values of the presidential majority " he criticized while affirming that their list "will be in constructive opposition".

"If the city regresses, you offer it to the far right in two years"

"We have been completely transparent, I’was elected by the Spiripontains, I am not going to get into the controversy […] J& ;rsquo;would have preferred to talk about Pont-Saint-Esprit. Let's go to the vote!" quickly brushed aside Gérome Bouvier who explained himself in a press conference on Thursday May 3 about his membership in Horizons.

For her part, Claire Lapeyronie soberly declared:"We respect the choice of the Spiripontains (…), but we will abstain because we we will not sign a blank check", and, she warned, "we know perfectly well the state of the city's finances. We will be in constructive opposition and will be very attentive to the proper use of public funds, while alerting Gérome Bouvier: " If the city regresses, you offer it to the extreme right in two years."

Despite the RN's attempt to destabilize Gérome Bouvier, the result of the vote, by secret ballot, was unsurprising. He received his fill of votes from his camp, i.e. 25 votes, the six from the RN naturally going to Emmanuel Le Pargneux. As expected, the two survivors from Claire Lapeyronie's list, herself and Daniel Mouchetant, abstained. Just as they did during the vote of the nine deputies. The RN camp choosing not to participate in this vote, "a positive abstention […]. How will you work with the opposition?&quot? asked Pierre Meurin who noted that "we presented a program which represents 35 % of the votes".

"I ask you to keep your word on the arrival of two doctors"

Girmed with his tricolor scarf, Gérome Bouvier, who "measures the extraordinary charge that mine has", has immediately recalled the commitments made by its list on health, safety and cleanliness. And announce that at the beginning of the week he had left his job as population director at Bollène town hall to devote himself fully to serving the city. "I enjoin the 33 representatives to faithfully serve our citizens without partisanship or dogmatism." He has also "very solemnly asked Claire Lapeyronie, in her capacity as regional advisor, that she keep her word on the matter. rsquo;arrival of two doctors in Pont" next September.

Next meeting next week for the new elected officials of Spiripontaine, in order to "establish the commissions" specified Gérome Bouvier.
