On the night of Sunday 5 to Monday 6 May 2024, a man was arrested in Saint-Chamond in the Loire after threatening to kill police officers and claiming to have explosives.
The police intervened early this morning in the Loire. Around 4 a.m., a man was arrested in Saint-Chamond while threatening to kill police officers. Note that the individual is suspected of radicalization, according to information from BFMTV.
Investigation open
The suspect is a 28-year-old man. He came to the police station on his own, declaring that he wanted to attack the officers while specifying that he had explosives. On him were found a walkie-talkie as well as a black flag with inscriptions in Arabic. Other objects were discovered in his vehicle, namely a machete and a sports bag. No incident was noted during his arrest, details the information channel.
The suspect had already been talked about earlier in the day. This Sunday afternoon he was seen by several witnesses walking in the street, displaying a flag of the Islamic State group.
Psychiatric disorders
Due to the seriousness of the facts, an investigation into "threats of destruction by dangerous means for people and repeated threats of death" was opened by the Saint-Étienne public prosecutor's office. The investigations must make it possible to determine whether the individual has all his means and whether the threats were serious or not.
Already known to the courts, the 28-year-old man suffers from psychiatric disorders. A medical examination carried out at the hospital must indicate whether the state of health of the arrested person is compatible, or not, with possible police custody, specifies the information channel.< /p>
