Finally… After two years of development and collaboration, the climate plan of the Terre de Camargue community of communes is entering its operational phase. The community brought together its partners this Thursday, June 20 to present the main points of this project aimed at meeting the challenge of climate change. That alone would tempt one to think…

For Robert Crauste, mayor of Grau-du-Roi and president of the Terre de Camargue community of communes, we are all actors in this commitment. "Everyone is committed to the future of this beautiful Camargue and each of you has brought an important contributing element", he said he addressed to the assembly gathered at the Grands domaine du littoral.

"The territory of Camargue is a territory that is suffering"

In Aigues-Mortes, in the premises of the vineyard, all the institutional, economic and associative partners who contributed to the implementation of the climate plan were gathered to attend the presentation of this& ;nbsp;innovative project. On the morning's program, a round table during which various economic and institutional players provided their expertise on the solutions to be put in place to develop renewable energies.

“We are fully aware of what is happening in relation to global warming: rising sea levels, soil salinity, episodes of flooding and drought, lack of water. The Camargue region is a region that is suffering", explained the first magistrate of Grau-du-Roi, painting a worrying picture of the current situation. "Today, the community of communes has decided to mobilize, as have the politicians around me."

Horizon 2050

The climate, air, energy plan (PCAET) in Terre de Camargue carries an ambitious strategy, that of halving the region's energy consumption and multiplying the production of renewable energies by six "in order to become a territory with positive energy by 2050", continues Robert Crauste. The result of two years of development, the climate plan is structured around five priority areas. Concrete actions to come

In the Camargue territory, concrete actions will be implemented in the coming months. "A territorial mobility plan is in preparation, including an urban shuttle in Grau-du-Roi planned for October 2024. In addition, the communities have developed a map for the development of photovoltaic panels on parking lots and public buildings", explained Robert Crauste, aware of the legal and administrative challenges that will have to be be overcome to carry out these projects.

The plan, planned over a period of five years, will "necessarily" change. "To put it simply, we must reduce fossil fuels and increase the share of renewable energies, detailed Robert Crauste.
