A British hiker has been found dead and a man has gone missing on the Spanish island of Majorca, in the Balearic archipelago, which has been hit by torrential rain since early September 2024.

“One of the hikers was found dead. The Civil Guard and the Majorcan fire brigade are continuing their search for the other missing person", the emergency services announced on the social network X on Wednesday 4 September.

The body found is that of a woman and the missing person is a man, the Guardia Civil told journalists.

The Balearic authorities had called for caution due to the "very intense storms" expected in the region. “Avoid outdoor activities (beach, hiking, water sports)”, warned the Balearic emergency services on Tuesday in X.
