“I am appalled by this occupation”: around sixty caravans of travellers enter the grounds of a castle

This Sunday, May 26, 2024, around sixty caravans of travelers entered the park of the Château de la Fleuriaye in the commune of Carquefou in Nantes, under the eyes of the authorities.
The location had already been occupied in 2020 and led to the cancellation of an open-air mass organized by the parish. Despite the installation of several anti-intrusion systems, the municipal police and the gendarmerie were unable to prevent new caravans from setting up, reports the Figaro< /em>.

This May 26, caravans of travelers settled in the park of the Château de la Fleuriaye after having moved the protection installed by the city. All this under the eyes of the authorities.
The councilor, Véronique Dubettier-Grenier, who had alerted the authorities of this intrusion declared: "I am, like many Carquefolians, appalled by this occupation" ;.
"Given the number of caravans, the municipal police and the gendarmerie were unable to prevent them from accessing the clearing& quot;, indicates a press release from the municipality consulted by Le Figaro.
The city filed a complaint
A village hall is located near the occupied location and will host several shows and end-of-year parties in June. Faced with this illegal occupation, the city decided to file a complaint and initiate an eviction procedure.
The prefecture of Loire-Atlantique clarified to our colleagues from Figaro that it could not act at the moment : "Nantes Métropole not being in compliance with the departmental reception and housing plan for Travelers, the administrative evacuation procedure provided for in article 9 of law n°2000-614 of July 5, 2000 is not applicable to the municipalities of Nantes Métropole".
