Victim of three cardiac arrests before the kick-off of the Béziers Angels match, Saturday January 20 at the Béziers sports center, Laurent Belmonte owes his salvation to Sylvain Pinaton, an emergency doctor present on the scene. Without him, he would certainly no longer be in this world.

"If that doctor hadn't been there, I would have died…" Laurent Belmonte has come a long way. From far away. Victim of three cardiac arrests, Saturday evening, in the Palais des sports in Béziers, just before the kick-off of the volleyball match between Béziers and Chamalières, he did not have to salute to the intervention of Sylvain Pinaton, an emergency doctor, present on the scene.

"My head spun and I fell"

Still in intensive care and bedridden at the Montpellier Arnaud-de-Villeneuve hospital, the Sauviannais undergoes medical examinations which are intended to be reassuring. had the strength, he hastened to pay tribute to those who saved his life: "I didn'I didn'not even have time&nbsp ;to thank them, he apologizes.Especially the doctor who saved me. I hope I can talk to him. There was also, I believe, a firefighter who helped him. There were also the Samu people. I don't really know anymore…"

Considering himself guilty of having spoiled the party and the match which was therefore postponed, Laurent Belmonte expressed his apologies to the two clubs of volleyball, relieved, moreover, to know he was out of the woods at the end of a day which had nevertheless started well:

"In the afternoon, with my wife, we went for a walk, says Laurent Belmonte. We had walked 7 to 8 km. I felt very good. A month ago, I even saw the cardiologist for a check-up because in 2015, I had a heart problem. Everything was going very well. We entered the gymnasium and as we reached the first row, where we had reserved our place, I felt dizzy, my head spun and I fell.&quot ;

Three consecutive cardiac arrests

The rest, the sturdy fellow no longer remembers. He simply remembers, twenty to thirty minutes after his discomfort, hearing himself say "I want to see the match!" The rest is Sylvain Pinaton, the emergency doctor from Béziers who intervened, who tells it: "We came as a family to see the match because my daughter plays volleyball, says the doctor who was helped by Laetitia Vigneron, a caregiver also present on the scene. The gym speaker asked if someone could come, because someone had just felt unwell. I intervened and after about thirty seconds, his heart stopped beating. I gave him a cardiac massage and asked for a defibrillator. We "shocked" twice. His heart started again and he even woke up. We then took him out of the field and into the hallway. His heart stopped again and we "shocked” a new time. He woke up and that's when he told us he wanted to watch the match!"

It was then the firefighters and the Samu who took charge of Laurent Belmonte who assures him: "As soon as I recover, I will go back to see the Angels". What will also be done by Sylvain Pinaton, his guardian angel for the day, who was going to see his first Béziers volleyball match!
