Several associations, trade union and political organizations are calling for a demonstration this Sunday against the 'Asylum and Immigration' law. voted in the National Assembly at the end of 2023. They request the withdrawal of the text while the Constitutional Council must rule on its conformity next Thursday.

"This is the beginning of a resistance, the most massive possible". Many associations working in the social sector, trade union organizations and several left-wing political parties are calling for demonstrations this Sunday afternoon (1) against the 'Asylum and Immigration' law. voted by the National Assembly at the end of last year.

"A question of humanity"

This mobilization comes less than a week before the Constitutional Council rules on the conformity of this text, the spirit of which and several articles are highly controversial. "We have a lot of criticism because it is an attack on the rule of law, underlines Sophie Mazas on behalf of the Human Rights League. "They know that this law is contrary to fundamental rights, it also attacks people who have papers and the French" continues the lawyer who hopes for a "significant mobilization, it's a question of humanity”. "It's a wicked, reactionary law" takes up Yvan Garcia for the PCF while Sébastien Boudesoque (CGT) sees it as "an attack on the labor market, the rights of French workers". "And wherever there are measures against immigration we have seen the extreme right come to power, in the Netherlands, in Poland" adds the union official.

"Creating a massive balance of power"

Several provisions included in the law particularly worry the organizers of this march "for liberty, equality, fraternity". This is the case of the deposit required from foreign students, "while student precariousness is exploding" and the "reduction in family benefits" which would be conditional on five years of presence in the territory."This is the notion of national preference. The question of land law disappears and we see the notion of blood law appear. This law provides the basis for the National Rally and its ideas" protests Béatrice Rougy (Mrap). "I am a teacher, I taught my students land law, social rights. This may no longer be valid. And yet France, the republican base are built on these things. notes Delphine Petit (Eco-socialist Left, ex-Ensemble).

The objective of Sunday's march is to establish "a massive balance of power in the street because the stakes are major" summarizes Francis Viguié (La Carmagnole). "The slogan is clear:  the withdrawal of the law, which is entirely possible" assures Yvan Garcia.

(1) Departure from Place Albert 1er at 2:30 p.m. Gatherings are also organized in Béziers, Sète, Lodève, Ganges and Lunel (Saturday).   I subscribe to read more
