We came close to tragedy in Castelnau-de-Guers this Sunday, March 10. Five young partygoers, installed in the vineyards with their vehicles, were surprised by the waters of the Hérault River in flood after the heavy rainfall recorded in the department. The intervention of two elected officials from the town and a local resident with his tractor made it possible to save the five young people.

While in the neighboring department of Gard, we deplore the disappearance of several people, this Sunday, March 10, we missed a tragedy in Castelnau-de-Guers, following the flooding of the Hérault river. Indeed, five young partygoers who were installed with their vehicles near the vineyards which are located near the old mills were surprised when they woke up this Sunday, around 8 a.m. by the sudden rise in the waters of the Hérault River in flood.< /p>

Help from a tractor

Luckily for them, two deputy mayors, Patrick Zimmermann and Michel Guibert, who had come to see the water level saw the vehicles which were surrounded by water. They then called on a local resident, Jean-Luc Sanhet, who, with the help of his tractor and cables, was able to get the trapped vehicles out of the water.

Caution is advised

A caravan was destroyed and a truck was unable to restart. Once again, we can only recommend caution during rainy episodes which are nevertheless announced with strong recommendations. But unfortunately, despite the effective presence of signs and barriers which have been installed to prohibit traffic, motorists have been seen to disregard these recommendations and defy the prohibitions.
