In Fournès, after the abandonment of the Amazon project, Adere is campaigning for an alternative agricultural management plan

Après l’abandon d’« Amazon », ces militants critiquent un nouveau projet annoncé, au cours d'une réunion publique organisée, par la mairie à Fournès.

Après l’abandon du plan Amazon, could these be the beginnings of a new challenge to the latest development project concerning the La Pâle area in Fournès ? In Nîmes, representatives of the ;rsquo;Adere (association for the development of employment while respecting the environment) took stock of this new project, just announced by the mayor of Fournès, Thierry Boudinaud and the Idec group, during a public meeting on January 23.
We remember – it’s not that far – that the administrative court of Nîmes, seized by an appeal brought by – among others – Adere canceled, in November 2021, the environmental authorization concerning the project known as Amazon. And the bearer of this file finally threw in the towel, a month later.
This Friday, February 16, Patrick Genay and Éric Gonssard, on behalf of the Adere association, recalled what they understood about the new development project for the La Pâle area. This could include a veterinary medical center, an SME center, a restaurant, and a local house… A logistics platform of more than 37,000 m2 and a silo building are also planned. This project is spread out, this time over the entire surface of the La Pâle area.

« This time, we are being told about a silo car park and a smaller logistics platform than in the previous project, with the passage of around sixty vehicles per day. This seems strange to us », notes Patrick Genay. The activist – beekeeper in Fournès – and his colleague, Éric Gonssard, once again contest the construction of this logistics platform, wondering about the 450 jobs that would be announced. « These are precarious jobs. These young people, when they return home, are washed out. They will have difficulty affording to live there.»

The two activists point out that there are rules to respect to obtain an exemption. That there are also difficulties in managing water. And in this area, nothing would be resolved.

The two activists focused on their Pegasus project.« We had already presented it to the community of communes a few years ago and we asked the mayor of Fournès to receive us…hellip;.» L’ association proposes a project which « will make it possible to promote local agricultural activities by providing the beginnings of a response to problems (access to land, income) while respecting biodiversity. » A project which fits completely into the territorial food plan (Pat), recall the two activists. « We are behind schedule, notes Patrick Genay. We should have reacted in 2013. The land had not yet been purchased. But it’s not too late.»This Friday, the former mayor of Saint-Dionisy, Michel Gabach and a young farmer from the town came to testify about what had been implemented in their town. «This is not easy for a village of around 1,000 inhabitants but we did it. It was quite a challenge. »
