During the night of May 12 to 13, 2024, violent storms broke out on both sides of France. Dozens of departments were placed on yellow alert, with an extended alert in 36 of them.

Central and northern France were shaken by violent storms last night. This Monday morning, 36 departments are still placed on storm yellow vigilance. In addition, two are on alert for risks linked to flooding, six for rain-flooding and four for wind.

After the passage of a first burst of storms in the night, Internet users did not fail to share images of the bad weather on X (Twitter).

Hail and floods

And if the lightning did no harm, as is very often the case, and fortunately the case, the heavy rains caused floods. Particularly in Calvados, where municipalities have suffered damage.

On the Eure side, hailstorms swept the landscape, under the sometimes amused, sometimes dumbfounded eyes of the inhabitants.

Paris has not escaped the bad weather. The north of the capital was particularly affected. Internet users say that the road was flooded, in particular because of pipe problems.

Yellow vigilance maintained

Météo France maintains alert at the lowest level for the day of Monday and until Tuesday to a lesser extent. The storm yellow vigilance mainly concerns the south-west, the center and the east of France.

The North, as well as the Mediterranean coast, are for the moment spared from the passage of stormy depressions. But for Tuesday, Hérault, Gard and Lozère are placed on storm yellow alert. After rain returns overnight, thunder could rumble in the region from late morning and into the afternoon.
