Three indigenous cases of dengue fever reported this Thursday, August 8

#OCCITANIEA transmission of the dengue virus was reported this Thursday, August 8 in Aimargues (Gard). Since the person had not recently traveled to an area where the virus was circulating, this is an indigenous case. “The sick person is hospitalized and being treated”, the prefecture said.

Also yesterday, the ARS (Regional Health Agency) reported “a transmission of the dengue virus in two people from the same family”having stayed in Baho (P.-O.) and Florac (Lozère). To prevent the spread of the virus, preventive measures have been put in place in these three sectors. It is advisable to consult in the event of flu symptoms.

The shark population is declining

#HÉRAULT A four-metre thresher shark was invited, a few days ago, to the first Palavas Fishing Grand Prix. A catch that reminds us that the shark is indeed present in the Mediterranean, even if its population is declining, analyzes Nicolas Ziani, scientific director of the Groupe phocéen d’étude des requins (GPER) in Marseille.

"The thresher shark and the blue shark are classic species, typical of temperate seas. They have become accustomed to the presence of humans", details the expert who confirms a decrease in the number of individuals in the Mediterranean.“The presence of some species closer to the coast is due to the fact that they have become accustomed to the proximity of humans. They are looking for food. But there was much more interaction with humans before. Sharks have become somewhat mystical creatures because we have lost contact with them. Most of them are harmless, there is no danger."

According to him, intensive fishing would be one of the causes of this decline.

A wolf shot

#LOZÈREOn the night of Tuesday 6 to Wednesday 7 August 2024, in the commune of Laval-du-Tarn, a wolf in a situation of attack on a flock of sheep was killed as part of a simple defense shooting permit issued to a farmer in the commune.

This shooting was carried out by a wolf-hunting lieutenant commissioned by the prefecture and follows two reports of damage made in recent days on this flock. This is the 98th wolf killed in France since the beginning of the year under ministerial orders. A regulatory autopsy will be performed.

Volotea lands in Rodez

#AVEYRON The president of the Department, Arnaud Viala, confirmed that the Amelia company will no longer provide the Rodez-Paris connection after August 19. From September 2, the Spanish company Volotea will take over. In the meantime, no operator should operate.

“What was important in the choice was the frequency of service, the accessibility of ticket prices for the greatest number of people for this vital service for our department”, indicates Arnaud Viala on social networks.

As a reminder, the public authorities (Department, Rodez Agglo and Region) had signed a contract worth 9.6 million euros with the French company Amalia in place since 2018.
