Instant transfers soon to be free in France following this decision by the Council of the European Union

Après le vote d'un texte au parlement européen en début de mois, le Conseil de l'Union européenne vient d'acter que les virements bancaires instantanés devront être proposés sur tout le vieux continent, à un prix pas plus cher que les virements classiques.

It’s confirmed. After the vote on a text in the European Parliament at the beginning of the month, the Council of the European Union has just validated this Monday, February 26, that instant bank transfers ;should be offered throughout Europe, at a price no more expensive than traditional transfers, reports Le Parisien.< /p>

In France, making a traditional transfer costs you nothing in almost all banking establishments. As a result, instant transfers, often priced at 1 euro, can be made free of charge.

The measure should come into force within 18 months. As for countries that have not adopted the single currency, banks will benefit from additional time until 2027, and even 2028 for payments from an account denominated in their national currency.

Already free in some banks

Instant transfer has already been implemented in most major banks. And some banks have already introduced free instant transfers, like Boursorama and Fortuneo.

Thus, quick transfers represent 76% of transfers issued at Fortuneo for example. There is no doubt that the share of instant transfers should increase among other banking establishments when these operations become free.
