Investigators believed it was an overdose: the man actually died during an exorcism session

The 43-year-old man died at the beginning of February in Turin under mysterious circumstances. On March 23, 2023, investigators concluded that it was a homicide.

Investigators initially suspected an overdose but concluded that the man had died during an exorcism session.

A ritual led by his uncle

The victim was found on February 10 in an apartment in the town of Salassa in Turin, Italy. As reported by the Italian press agency Ansa this Saturday March 23, the death was in fact a homicide.

The man suffocated during an Islamic exorcism session led by his uncle, according to autopsy results.

The victim's uncle and his brother were arrested and placed in detention. According to the Ansa press agency, the uncle is an important figure in the Muslim community of Cuorgnè, a neighboring town of Salassa. The ex-wife of the forty-year-old was also arrested and placed under house arrest.

He had already undergone exorcism sessions

They thought he was possessed by a demon before his death. The 43-year-old man had already undergone at least two exorcism rituals, one of which led him directly to undergo treatment at the hospital.

On February 12, 2024, a 54-year-old man confessed to having killed his wife and two sons in Italy during an exorcism session. The man of Sicilian origin wanted to “free them from the demon”.
