Ten people were killed in a strike in Majdal Shams, Magen David Adom, Israel's equivalent of the Red Cross, said in a new report, adding that 19 people were injured, six seriously.

Israeli police and the army confirmed that rockets hit several sites in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights, including one that hit Majdal Shams. The city is located on the northern border of Israel and southern Lebanon and borders Syria.

The army blamed the deadly shooting on Hezbollah, which denied being the perpetrator.

Many injured

Helicopters, ambulances and mobile intensive care units were deployed to the site, the army said.

“We arrived at a football field and saw destruction and objects on fire. “The injured were lying on the grass,” paramedic Idan Avshalom said in a statement released by Magen David Adom.

An AFP correspondent reported that medics were carrying the injured on stretchers from the site of the rocket strike in Majdal Shams, adding that several members of the Israeli security forces had been quickly deployed to the area.

“Officers and sappers from the Northern District Police are currently securing the area to prevent any further risk to the public", police said in a separate statement.

Hezbollah fighters killed

The rocket attack came after a Lebanese security source said four fighters from the Iran-backed Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah had been killed by an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah confirmed the deaths of four of its fighters. The movement has been exchanging cross-border fire with the Israeli army almost daily since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, triggered by the attack launched on October 7 by Hamas in Israel.
