The ceremony which took place this Monday noon was an opportunity to recall the numerous hospital projects which will be launched or will see the light of day this year in Montpellier.

The staff cafeteria at Lapeyronie hospital was crowded this Monday afternoon for the greeting ceremony. It was a first for general director Anne Ferrer, who arrived last March. "I know I asked a lot of the CHU teams, she said. Starting with a five-year establishment project developed in five months, with the support of more than a thousand professionals."

This Monday, she listed the deadlines for 2024. "The first half will see in particular the opening of the Sas (Access to care service), in order to improve unscheduled care, and an on-call medical center near the Lapeyronie emergency room. quot;

"In this month of January 2024, six major operation contracts were launched: the extension of the building&nbsp ;heart-lung and woman-mother-child in Arnaud de Villeneuve, the rehabilitation of three wings of Lapeyronie, the extension of emergency rehabilitation, and oncology in Saint-Eloi. They represent a total investment of 87 M€."

730 M€ of protected investments

S'add, excluding Segur support, "the start of the Balmes 2 operation at the end of the year, and the renovation of the Colombière addiction unit which will open in the first quarter of 2024. It was high time that we modernized our university hospital. But concrete has never been the direction of action. The medical project and the managerial project constitute the beating heart of our strategy. Our hospital transformation school will open in 2024 for department heads, directors and executives."

After the opening of the UAPED (Pediatric reception unit for children in danger) last year, "the Women's House will see the light of day next June, sponsored by Alexandra Lamy, then the Parents' House, after the summer holidays". While rejoicing about "the 4.5% increase in the recruitment of nurses in 2022 when departures decrease by almost 20%."< /em>

"There is a roadmap at 730 M€ of investments protected on the influence of the CHU, recalled Michaël Delafosse. The University Hospital is in project mode, and therefore achievements. As mayor and chairman of the board of supervisors, I am your number one supporter."

Enough to fundamentally transform the University Hospital which was still one of the most dilapidated in France a few years ago.

53% more students in four years at medical school

"If we got the green light for the reconstruction of the University Hospital last July, it's because all the players were in unison" , underlined the general director of the Occitanie regional health agency, Didier Jaffre. "You form a team of 12,000 people with a set goal."

"2023 was a brilliant year with the signing in October of an agreement with the Nîmes hospital center and the University of Montpellier& ;quot;, recalled Isabelle Laffont, dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier-Nîmes. Which has "increased its number of students by 53% in four years!"< /p>

"Simplifying the hospital requires more trust and less control, underlined the president of the Medical Establishment Commission, Fabrice Taourel. We must not impose austerity measures on doctors and caregivers of which patients will be the main victims."
