The Consumer Recall site warns of the presence of a toxic plant in organic flour sold in France.

This Wednesday, consumers who have purchased organic flour are asked to be vigilant. Certain references of the condiment would be contaminated by a toxic plant.

Are recalled "all packaging of JP Cloteau brand organic buckwheat flour, with a minimum durability date (MBD) of October  2024 to March 2025", notes the dedicated site Consumer reminder.

Several types of packages affected

Packages of 1, 2.5, 5, 10 and 25 kilograms are concerned, the references and batches are specified on Consumer reminder. More generally, consumers are called to be careful of products whose MBDs are set between October and March of next year.

The gencodes (GTIN) affected at the moment are: 3760222470605, 3760222470216, 3760222470179, 3760222470209 and 3760222470193. The list of these codes will be enriched soon, the site reports.

Toxic plant

The reason for the recall is "contamination with tropane alkaloids". To understand: the Datura. According to the website of l’Agence régional de santé en Bretagne, this is "d&rsquo ;a very common herbaceous plant, found in fields and which naturally contains very high levels of tropane alkaloids". These acids may have "effects on the nervous system" and be the cause of acute poisonings.

According to the ARS, the symptoms to watch out for are: "dry mouth, dilated pupils, vision problems, tachycardia , agitation, confusion, space-time disorientation, hallucinations and incoherent speech."
